Channa bleheri spotted at Amazon LFS.
    $15 is not too expensive.
    It is a dwarf snakehead
    LSZ approved []

    It is :
    (1) Peaceful and compatible with other fish that are not big enough to swallow. If your fish are all at least tiger barb sized you are very safe. plecos, angels, discus...they will not bother them. But smaller corys may be at risk. Shrimps confirm cannot.
    (2) A very interesting addition to planted tanks.
    (3) able to take blood worm readily...no need to use feeders. Well trained ones take pellets too.
    (4) slow growers...those in the shop are 3-4" ..max out at 6".
    (5) Hardy

    But:
    (1) May jump if being pushed around too much...if given nice hiding place, chances of jumping much lower..but still possible
    (2) cannot be kept in a too rowdy or busy tank. They do not hold themselves well against harressments.
    (3) are territorial among their own kind. So if tank is too small, dont get too many.

here is one i kept last time

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

lsz, channa bleheri has two other very similar species, channa gachua (native to Singapore) and channa orientalis right? i have a dwarf snakehead in one of my tanks but i know it's not channa bleheri. doesn't have the red markings on the caudal fin. i guess it's channa orientalis.

    regards, [] []

no no fox it will become aro food!

ANd storm, yeah if you are having another dwarf snakehead with red markings, there is a higher chance of it being orientalis
coz gachua is largely blue based..well kept ones have a nice powery light blue and some brown

this is one Very nice gachua . never seen like that before

Last month, I saw a small snakehead baby in one of the LFS at TB market. It was hidding in a tank filled with plants. When I asked one of the shop keepers he told me its just a "longou" fish...but when look closely, it is really a baby snakehead.

Went to Malaysia last month a caught three 3ft snakeheads...one of them still inside my freezer...don't know what to do with it []

eZion, was it a fishing trip? Where did you caught it? Heard from my fren that there is also a lot of snake heads in the Lim Chu Kang area where the water from reserviors are released into the sea. Will be fun to go fishing[]

Sorry, the specieman in my freezer is not 3ft but only about 1.5ft. The 3ft ones I used to caught were released back into the wild cause they are either mothers or are pregnant.
