aahhhh.. then u better give them live food or at least till they r trained to take dry food... these type of fishes, mostly raised up bloodworm or tubiflex or wild ones (which never know what other source of food looks like)

Is your dry food sinking type? I find checker board is a pretty shy fish and hangs around the bottom of the tank most of the time.
I feed mine with live and froozen food and they do eat them after awhile. Maybe you would like to feed them with froozen blood worm. By the way, I understand that Gan feeds his checker board with tubifex worms!

    Cheers

i believe most apisto/dwarf cichlid r shy when first intro into the tank, floating food, they never will get to see, only with sinkers do they stand a chance of eating...

    eddie, gan feed them beefheart

Hi Simon, I've never tried feeding dwarf cichlids with beefheart. Tried that on discus and end up got to change water frequently. Too lazy to change water. I like feeding them with live food.

By the way any one out there manage to breed checker board?

    Cheers

Hi Simon, I forgot to mention I thought I saw some tubifex worms in Gan's checker board tanks last sunday. Now I am not too sure, I could be wrong.

i feed my checkerboards with live bloodworms, tubifex and some other livefoods. they don't like frozen foods and don't try flakes. they don't like em either. they'll pick at the food and then spit it out. choosy lil' buggers.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable
