do you want to break his back???? c'mon ken.. lol...
Its satay time!!
There is HC as the main foreground plant, 8 sq ft of it.
Took 22 hours to plant it, you cannot stop once you start, misting the weeds as you go.
I'll likely do about 5-7 more this size of larger, I know I'll do 3 such tanks coming up for the LA Zoo here.
The plant list is awesomer, but the fish list will blow anything ADA has ever done........
The client has in quarantine:
64 Altums
60 Rose line barbs
36 Champ 10" Discus, yes, they are larger than any I've seen at the shows, about 8-9 years old.
1000 cardinals
300 apisto's
Rare plecos etc
I've never seen even at the wholesalers that many or that large of fish.
Regards,
Tom Barr

Oh, this kicks and stomps anything else in the tech dept.
EI dosed 3x a week.
No fancy dosing pumps, you have to feed after all often, in large tanks that can be tough, mosts starve their fish and they slowly die off, that is why seldom we see many fish in larger tanks.......
and make sure everyone gets their share.
Look at the large ADA tank, see any fish?
I don't.
You will here.

Does it cost as much as a Ferrrari to build that?
Amazing stuff... hope to see more pics of the tank.
I have no doubt that Americans like building their stuff BIG.

The client is very nice and has kept fish all their life, so this is really their passion. They have a 1.5 w/gal 150 gal tank at the office which is become very nice, I did that back about 5 weeks ago.
Sort of a test run, get the client's feet wet run.
No it's not cheap for such displays.

Great project O mai gooodness~...I can't wait to see the final overall outcome~
Hi Tom,
Is that you in the picture? Is your mind racing by, just standing there? Awesome tank, nice hardwares and giant driftwoods, great stuff.
Keep more pictures coming.
No, that is Mark, he's the curator at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, one of the top public aquariums on the planet. A good friend and long time plant guy , we have worked on a number of large plant tanks for many years.
Here's the 4 main amigos.
I'm in the shades and tank top, normal wear for myself at work
Hey Monterey Bay Aquarium, that sounds familiar...friend of mine just showed me some holiday shots, this was one of the place they visit, awesome place, would love to go there some day.

You guys are coming out with monster-tanks! Amazing stuff!! Maybe I will get a custom 8 footer for my new house when it is built up coming 2008 as well.
visit my photo albums @ flickr!
the tank is certainly amazing and huge. but check out the wood inside there too
WOW dream tank for me. LOL The wood in that is amazing in it's self. I'm a Apistogramma freak myself and I would love to see the list of the spices to be added. 300 spices of Apisto is close to all named and clasafied of the spices. LOL Great tank!!!
Here's one and nice male borelli.

I have lots of wood, we have mountains of it of this type.
Email if you need any
Shipping would kill you.
I have it truck freighted to the clients, it's not that bad when you do large tanks.

We'd got some trees here in Bukit Timah too. But chopping them down for fire wood or our tanks will put us in jail.
Btw, great work on the tank!
We clear out the swamps in Florida and get these.
They have stopped a lot of that, but private land owners will still clear lots of brush from land here and we have a fair amount.
In general, some small scale removal fopr aquaria use is nothing like the wholesale destruction from slash and burn and logging companies.
That's very sad.
The onwer of this tank is very committed to saving such places in nature and is working to bring many of the hollywood elite together to raise $ for saving it.
By making large beautiful examples of Amazonian communities, we can highlight and save such places, the LA Zoo will also do 3 such tanks like this once this one is settled and doing well.
More exposure, the better for the tanks and the hobby.
So there is a lot more to this tank and what I do that many might realize.
Amano is also committed to showing folks the significance of the Rainforest and saving it.

Hi Plant Brain,
it must be a great experience planning and working on such a project... it would be dream come true for many of us here.
Sorry if I missed these out (some of your terms I dont understand):
1. Is there base fertillisation?
2. Your arms dont look four feet long, did you plant EVERYTHING with tweezers/forceps/ whatever they're called? Must be very tiring..
3. What is the filtration system used to support such wonderful array of fauna? (I assume the "7ft tall fluidized bed filter"? but is that sufficient for all those fish alone?)
Lastly, want to ask a bit out of point question: For such wonderful set ups, which I assume provide near Ideal growing conditions for fish and plants alike, what are their real contributions? Can those rare species of altums and plecos actually spawn and raise a brood in such display tanks? Or do the purpose of these tanks end at educating the public and inspiring other aquarists?
I do not doubt that the owner must be very dedicated nature lover/conservationist, just wondering IF such set ups, can help in breeding some of the rare species of fish and plants stocked in it.
thanks
