For some reason, I have no luck growing Java Fern in my discus tank. I suspect it's the temperature but not quite sure, since other plants have no trouble growing. My tank temperature is consistently 29-30C even with a fan (high due to the location. Since it's 400L, it's not that easy to move).

My question is, what's the temperature that you guys have success growing Java fern (both normal and windelov)? I mean prolonged temperature, not short intervals of high temp.

    thanks!

I am currently growing my java ferns (broad leaves, narrow leaves, windelov, etc) in temperature 24-26 or 25-27.

But in another tank (not mine), some java plants are surviving at temperature of 28-30 for a period of more than 6 months now. Their growt in that tank is limited by other factors.

So to answer your question, yes i will think java fern can be grown in temperature 29-30.

wait for others to comment more!

Not an issue for me. Although I prefer to keep them at about 28 degrees. They look less weird

I kept mine around a temperature of probably 28 to 26 degrees.

Yup, my java fern is surviving in 28-29C thou the grow rate is slow.
Think you should check other factors.

Perhaps you can tell us more about how your fern die? Melt away?

Thanks for all your replies. I'll see if I can get a picture. Basically it doesn't melt or die or anything. It just stays there. The leaves remained green, but there are no light green growing tips on them anymore. This has been puzzling me for a long while, since my stem plants have been growing like weeds. I've taken bucketloads of Ludwigia cuba, L. pantanal, B. japonica, E. tenellus, L. arcuata out every couple weeks...but my ferns are such a disappointment.

They don't grow by light green tips, they grow new leaves off the rhizome. Sometimes plantlets grow from the undersides of old leaves.
