Most of us seem to use Otocinclus or CAE as algae cleaners in the planted tank because they don't grow too big.

Does anyone use those black coloured armoured catfish? I used to keep them in my non-planted tank when I was young and they really do a great job.

I wonder if they are suitable for a planted tank. Maybe when they grow bigger, then we replace it with a smaller one?

    Comments, anyone? Thanks.

for me, i feel using fish for a purpose and then disposing of them when they're too big is kinda irresponsible [:]
for this reason i gave up on saes and puffers
i presume you're talking about plecos? why not get the zebra, ancistrus cats? manageable size, and relatively good at algae control

By replacing, I don't mean disposing lah.
    Maybe give it away.

Anyway, I just asking because I saw one pic of such a fish cleaning the planted tank at http://www.ntnu.no/%7Efoksen/fishes.htm

    Cheers!

i think the pixes show a bristlenose sucker cat... supposedly good algae eater and they dun grow bigger than 5-6 inches. The reason they aren't so popular (compared to the common pleco suckers which grow quite big) is probably becos they are damn expensive and rare.
