Joe, it has nothing to do with the camera... Its about the lens...
Anyway, the camera Benny was using was a Canon 1DMkII with a 16-35mm L USM... Total cost nearly 8k? Hahaha...

correction, its the man behind the camera. I have seen some people with expensive equipments but the result is . Equipment plays a part, but the person behind plays a bigger part

But then if a person brought a 10k worth camera and lens, surely the guy got to learn to take good picture. Like Benny and Valice.

not really, some hobbyist would think that a good camera will naturally take good picture. And also like all hobbies, some has the 'touch' while the rest doesn't, no matter how hard they try

I beg to differ on the part of touch... Think for aquatic photography, composition and posing of the subject is not a big science unlike human photgraphy... So it is alot of practise and the correct setup to take a good fish picture...

So, it is much easier to shoot a fish than a person... Where you need to consider messy hair and dirty soles... Blah...

same theory, i have seen it many times before, every aspect of photography is the same, practise does make it better, like macro photography shots are usually closeup, but still some never can get the composition right, nor the pic is pleasing to the eye, even when everything else is correct.

anyway, like I said before, equipment is just a tool, it is the person behind that makes a diff

Good skills + good equipment = best combo.

Good skills make the best of bad equipment.

Good equipment usually do not compensate for bad skill.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

I am dumb founded! 10K for a camera

The skill must be equally good to match the price of the camera right?

Now I know the reason why my picture is always comparing to Benny's..

That is not the reason, Benny has been taking pictures for donkey years so....he'll probably still beat us using a G6.

I will say it is the necessary equipment, plus the photographer.

Thanks Joe for your kind compliments.

The pictures were taken with a Canon Digital SLR. It does not matter which model. You can get the same pictures with a Canon 300D which you can buy used for just a few hundred dollars too.

I'm not trained in photography, but I'm more than happy to share all that I know with the folks here. All that matter is your sincere and geniune interest. You picture can be just as good if not better that what you see posted here.

Someone buy Benny the cell phone!

It's definitely the person behind the camera, and lens, that really matters. I've seen his works from others' cameras and the shots were still very good.

hehe.... I am not saying benny is no good... infact he is very good... I had always liked his fishy pictures

However, I believe a decent lense and camera are required to bring the correct pictures to life

PS: Benny, surely you do not need a good camera phone to take good pictures right?

I agree with Goondoo. Good equipment enhance the skill of the photographer. But the knowledge attained in the skill of picture taking with good equipment is far better than the knowledge attained in the skill of picture taking with a decent equipment.

Btw, is Canon coming out a camera model with a handphone attachment thingy? This will seriously replace all the memory card business in the world. Nobody will need a memory card anymore, after taking picture, transfer it straight into the internet to store to a personal folder. I'll buy that if it came out! There's handphone with camera but there's no camera with handphone.

Actually, I need a new handphone. Mine is broken. Since you guys doubt the phone, I might as well show you what you can potentially do with them if you are generous enough to sponsor me a set.

I also moderate on www.arofanatics.com's photography section and here's a thread dedicated to phone aquatic photography.

Pehaps we should start one here?
