No, don't inject CO2 when doing a blackout, just require to aerate the tank to provide O2. but by doing so your plants will suffer after blackout.

Actually hair algae can be combat by maually remove them as much as you can. get yamatoes or SAEs.

Buy a few black thrash bags from NTUC. Fold each thrash bag in half and tape to the tank's sides. Include the top.

Plants will suffer during the blackout, but very minimally in my experience. So don't worry, just leave it there until the day comes for the blackout to end.

i dont think it works too cos i tried it before.. however its a very tedious process to remove it by hand. my solution is by putting in more yamatoes. they surely help alot..

i've had similar bad experience with hair alage too. What you really got to do is to do a manual removal, add in some yamatoes
Maybe you can refer here for past discussion on how to combat it :

i had this problem before... what i did was stop injecting CO2, changed 30% of the water and i did not switch on the lights for 2-3days... problem was solved... if still got problem switch on the light just for a day, change 30% of water again and carry on blackout for another 2-3 days... this is what i did, but others may have other methods...

Not exactly, because there's still ambient light getting into the tank.

Do you continue the internal filters though? If I switch them off the BB dies right?

just had some black hair algae in my tank the other day.
turned off the lights n co2 and blacked out my tank for about 24hrs.
noticed that within less than 12 hrs, the black aglae already died and turned brownish.
for green hair algae, a sufficient water change might do the trick.
had a lot of algae in my FGT once cos didn't change the water for very long.
i changed abt 80% of it and the next day the algae already started dying.
its the pH shock that kiiled it.
but for planted tank i think cannot use the wc method.
