Next coming friday, Chinese & Korean will celebrate the moon cake festival. In Kuching, we'll go to carpenter street to buy moon cakes & other foods.....Also, every night from Sept 30 until Oct. 6 (?), got different group of performers to entertain the crowd.

    A local band:

One of the important Chinese history about this moon cake festival is ....about a revolution to over thrown Mongolian rulers who was ruling China during the Yuan dynasty.

According to Wikipedia (the free encyclopedia from internet): "Mooncake were used as a medium by the Ming revolutionaries in their espionage effort to secretly distribute letters in order to overthrow the Mongolian rulers of China in the Yuan dynasty. The idea is said to be conceived by Zhu Yuanzhang and his advisor Liu Bowen, who circulated a rumor that a deadly plague was spreading and the only way to prevent it was to eat the special mooncakes. This prompted the quick distribution of the mooncakes, which were used to hide a secret message coordinating the Han Chinese revolt on 15th day of the eigth lunar month.

Another method of hiding the message was printed in the surface of mooncakes as a simple puzzle or mozaic. In order to read the encrypted message, each of the 4 mooncakes packaged together must be cut into 4 parts each. The 16 pieces of mooncake, must then be piece together in such a fashion that the secret messages can be read. The pieces of mooncake are then eaten to destroy the message."

Anyway, it is interesting seeing it being celebrated big scale traditionally...

Singapore's tourism board is trying to do something like that here...

HAPPY MOON CAKE / MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL TO EVERYONE!!!

This year, we celebrate this festival under thick layer of haze caused by forest fires....started by the farmers in Borneo. A plane in east Kalimantan was over shot & crashed in the bushes at the end of the runway. Luckily, nobody is killed in this accident. And, flight schedule in Kuching airport is either delayed or cancelled due to low visibility caused by the haze. I hope my flight is not cancelled tomorrow. I got an important field trip tomorrow.

Well, the photo below was taken just now.....the full moon in orange colour!!!
