Bought a pair of guppies 3 days ago. I put the two of them together and was wondering if they will pair up and mate. Instead i saw the female chasing the male around the tank. Is she too fierce for this male? Any idea how to make them pair up?

Is your tank planted or bare?
Do you have any other fishes in your tank? If yes, does your female guppy chase them too?

My tank is planted. I have 3 other lampeyes. But she don't seem to be bothered about them. Guppies don't like planted tanks?

I have read that females tend to be more aggresive when they are pregnant.. such as when it is the first pregnancy or the male is constantly bothering the female to mate even when she is pregnant.

However the above does not apply to all guppies as some hobbyists did not notice any big difference in behavioural change.

I am not too sure about this recommendation (you may want to check with the more experienced guppy keepers) but IF your female guppy is not pregnant and yet still aggressive, you may want to get another female as the ideal ratio for guppies is 2 females to 1 male. This may ease some stress off your aggressive guppy by diverting some attention of the male.

Correction. Guppies don't mate. Rape is more accurate word. Just put a few guppies in a tank and you will see what the males do to the females.

I ever see aggressive females actually "chased" the male till the male (due to bigger finnage) got torn fins & tail and died.

So I would suggest getting another male to divert the female aggressiveness.
Preferably, you find, observe and get a male that is already chasing females in the shop should you want to have "frys".

Understand that friends come and go,
but with a precious few you can hold on.
