Guys, anyone know what is the most efficient way to fight "columnaris" & "fin rot" ...?
I bought 5 guppies (4 females & 1 male) last Saturday, & they went the next day when still quarantined in betta nano tank (luckily I haven't put them in main tank).
I observed columnaris infected some of them, then it get spreaded, & I also suspect fin rot.
I've tried 30 min salt bath, Jungle products (fungus clear & parasite clear), & I also add mild salt in their water, nothing helps...

Never had this problem before, but this aware me to take careful action when buying new fishes, so I can prevent this happen again, because they're very beautiful fishes, & I just stand there without knowing what else to do

Have you tried Ocean free 'O' treatment. Seems promising. But I can assure you the chances of recovery is very low, even with medication, because the time you see the symptoms, it might be too late.

Seems promising, as it seems to relieve the fishes from stress, they don't look so lethargic. But I don't think there is a single medication out there that can promise miracles.

For fin rot, treat with Melafix. Follow instructions and treat for 7 days. You can combine the treatment with water daily 30% water change (before each redose) for faster results. Treat fishes in a small tank no larger than 2 ft, as the US-made medication is not cheap. You can get it from the Clementi uncle for a good price.

I don't know if this is the best treatment for finrot, but this I know... it always worked for me, like a miracle!

    Thanks Elmike...!
So the name is just "Melafix", no other complete name...?
Cause I live in Indonesia, will probably need the complete name to find this med...

    Hi Sweet Angel,
Just out of curiousity, how did you deduce that the afflictment was Columnaris? If for the benefit of doubt, it is Columnaris, try Tetra Medica( the orange and red packing ) very effective if use according to dosage, you will see results in 8-12 hours provided it's the first time introduced to the tank. They( Tetra Medica only comes in two packing, the other is blue in colour ) so you can't go wrong, if in doubt read the packing, it should say for Mouth, fin, tail rot and Columnaris.
My experience with guppies is 'salt', it should perk them up nicely. Use the calculator on the top right corner of this forum to get your tank capacity if you are not sure. Use medication accordingly, I hope this helps.

PS: it will turn your water blue and stain your silicon.
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

    Hi Sweet angel,
It's the way the question is asked. Maybe next time you could try stating clearly the systoms and condition of the fish or tank. I'm sure most of the members can help. If desperate, can PM me, I'll see what I can contribute.
And the magic word is effective and not efficient.

    Hi Michael,

I think I already have this Tetra Medica, but didn't look at it, because I only use it once, when tried to cure bumblebee goby, but entire tank turned brownish until all riccia gone most of the plants suffer & I have to do major rescape, while the goby still couldn't be cured.
Maybe will try again when needed, considering to treat in non planted quarantine tank.
I've tried the salt, doesn't work.
I suspect columnaris because I spotted cotton wool things in random parts of fishes.

PS : sorry forgot the difference between "efficient" and "effective"

That's right, just Melfix. It's tea leaf extracts and is harmless to plts and fish and doesn't stain aquarium silicones. Just google "Melafix" and there should be plenty of info.
