I prefer the one with the fill in flash, but I think it looks a tad too red
I wonder if you had sharperned too much, both pictures look abit like cut and paste between the branch + bird with the background.

actually I much prefer to use RAW sharpening in DPP and then transfer to PSCS2. I don't use USM any more in my fish pix.
