    Hi
I have all the thing in my tank(5ft x 2ft x 2ft)(Light(6 x 36w), CO2, Base Fert) but all my plant still melt???
The base fert is right at the bottom. The sand is about 10cm to 20cm thick.(the back is 20cm high and the front is 10cm high)
Is it because of the plant root cannot get the fert?

    Nick,

I believe that the plants are just planted right? What plants are we tokking about here? Some plants do melt when they are moved to a new environment. Crypts also melt when the parameters change drastically over a short period of time. But once the conditions are stable, they will grow new leaves.
    Cheers!!

10cm is quite thick, right? I have 1" of gravel sitting on 2" of soil in my case.
Did you also try to sandwich the base fertiliser between a top and bottom layer of gravel? This could make it easier for plants to access the nutrients. I understand some forumers do it this way.

    Nick,

How think is the base fert and how thick is the gravel on top of the fert? You should have about 1 to 3 inches (front to back) of base fert with 1 to 1.5 inches of gravel on top of that. Are you using any other fertilisers? What's your tank temp?

Lightwise, you're at about 1.5W/G (216W/142G). For a large tank like yours, shoot for around 2.5W/G or more for hi-light plants.

Before you buy new plants, check out Tropica and Dennerle for their plant database. You can browse Tropica's plant pics here. Note the light levels and difficulty of the plant. Maybe you can id some of the plants you have now.
