i hv just started a 2 ft tank [ used ADA Amazonia soil ]. Put it at my balcony with stong but not direct sunlight. Severe algae growth on the 4th.
Where the hell does the algae got the nutrients from? the soil?

I bet it is because of balcony thing. I also put one of my tank at my balcony, with a bamboo screen that is so any direct light is filtered in. You better use a net to shade your tank and utilize more controllabe source of light (using lamp). I heard, accordingly to the name suggest, ADA soil does come from soil mix origin. That could explain where algae got so much fuel from.

Relying on sunlight is a bit tricky. You need the right amount of light, but it is doable (I've done it and seen it done before). Shading net is always a good friend for this.
