the growth rate of this particular fish seem to be quite slow.mine havent grow much since i bought it 3 months ago.also the price range between the adult and the juvenile r rather wide.is it due to the slow growth rate of this fish?????

Their growth rate is quite fast...

Maybe your tank is over crowded.
    My fish passions:
    -African cichlids (especially Malawi)
    -Catfish
    -Red snook (petenia splendida)
    -Discus

Yeah lots of things can effect the growth of fish..from tank space to the food you give them...
Just make sure the filtration is good, you are feeding live foods often, and the tank size is correct. That will end up in a happy, healthy fish!

My 2 GTs', oscar and rainbow cichlids have only grown a little bit even after staying with me for almost a year. I feed them regularly, change water regularly and gave them lots of space but they are still just about the same. I myself don't know why also?

    many factors

water condition - clear water doesnt mean good water. Its all in the chemical property

social condtion - fish constantly threatened /stressed will not grow well. Sense of crowdedness, existence of domaninant fish in visual contact of the rest enough to have an effect. Young dominant fish also secret hormones into the water to prohibit grow of the rest.
SOcial condition is the most touchy aspect.

space and water condtion etc are relatively easier to meet
