I think most of the killifish hobbyists hangs out at www.killies.com.

Anyway, great picture as always. I supposed it jumped out?

    Cheers,

Yes, it jumped... through the gap allowed for the filter pipes. Too bad I found out the hard way...

I'm often amazed by the killifish's ability to find the smallest holes to terminate their existance in capitivty.

    Hi CK,
There's a small typo. It's splendopleure, not splendopluere. Population is "Tiko". Some call it 'Green' but it's the 'Orange phenotype' being consigned to LFS. I think your newer pics will make some people drool.

Benny, I don't have air-tight lids but if the killies are comfortable with their environment and not harassed by other tankmates, they're unlikely to jump (not even clown killies).

I lose more fishes from hunting lizards, visiting mynahs (sp?) and neighbours with itchy fingers, than from kamakazi killies.

    Hee Ronnie,

Ops. Cut and pasted from somewhere. There is no way I could have spelled the whole thing in the first place.

The tank is indoors so the environment is not as exciting as yours with predatory lizards and mynahs.

Incidentally, there are more killies popping up in LFS nowadays and the worse thing is that they are selling them in little packets like Betta. I am always tempted but the problem is that they either dun sell the female or you will doubt whether the female is of the same species...

    Hi CK,
Commercial release of killifishes is a flip-coin affair, it's not good but can be far worse. I'm all too aware of packed "pairs" of different genus and unless we have informed hobbyists, to lobby against or avoid such practices, the situation will persist.

IMHO, having a killie forum is inadequate, by virtue of limited individual resources, to spread the interest of conservation and specie maintenance. It's unrealistic to expect long-term commitments at hobbyist level, so it's a matter of doing what we can.

I admit not being a frequent participant here but there's only so many hours in a day. Give me a buzz if I missed out anything.
