Recently an emersed unknown crypt I've been keeping flowered, but the spathe soon dried up and died off. I did nothing to the tank it was kept in though, what could have caused it?

    Hello Squee

You answered your own question, it dried up and died

Seriously, they only survive for a few days at most before they begin to die. Taking a photograph is the best way to immortalise them

PS, all my Crypts are presently flowering except for the one that i really, really want to flower (My pontederiifolia,.......not fair )

Good luck on your next batch of flowers

Oh woops I forgot to mention, the spathe didn't open up at all. It seemed to be in the "about to open up" stage.

    Oh I see, Squee

In that case I would chalk it down to not enough light. This used to happen to me when my 'crypt tank' was in too much shade during the day. They now get semi full sun (shade cloth) for most of the morning and then the rest of the day full shade. Before this when they were in mostly shade the flowers were either VERY small or did not open fully. Try giving them some more light and it should help alot. This also helped a great deal with colour, they were more vivid with the stronger light. Also make sure the tank is getting sufficient air movement, it might also be a fungal issue killing the flowers. ?

    HTH

Ah thanks... might have been the persistant closing of windows/cloudy rainy weather nowadays that caused it.

you can try to have 24hr strong lighting over the crypt. They flowers much faster and frequently.
