I saw the cutest miniature banana plant. At least the fruit looked like a tiny
hand of green bananas. I want it. Will it last in my tropical freshwater tank?

Thanks for the pictures and list of responses from that first link. I was told that the banana part is not the root. That is the reason I want it most.

Used to be quite common once.. but not nowadays.. maybe some farms like Teo's.... quite easy to grow... the 'bananas' should not be buried - real roots will develop and anchor the plant by themselves.....

the plant will tend to grow floating leaves if left by itself... but if you keep cutting off the long developing stems before they reach the surface, it will change its mind and develop shorter, round submersed leaves instead.

I usually see it at C328 and Teo's. My wife finds them amusing for some reason. Are they really short lived as claimed?

I'm also not sure as I don't have experience in ths plant, which is why I asked. One of the comments in the link that Budak posted, claims it's shortlived but propogates easily.
