For those ppl whose house have those taps with a choice of hot and cold water and perform changes of water via the hose connected to the tap, pls take note of the direction of the tap; i.e; whether is it hot or cold water b4 switching on your tap...

this is what happened to me.. i was changing the water for my bumblebee tank when i suddenly felt how come it is so hot.. and took a look at the temp.. 37 degrees!!!!... [:0] i immediately switch off the tap and dump lots of ice into the tank to bring the temp down.. sigh.. limited ice and thus, need to monitor their status now.. hopefully dun have side effects after this incident.. if any of them were to die.. sigh.. it is all my fault for being careless..

I read this from a Dupla manual, and it bears some thought. The advice is, dun use water from piping which is used to carry hot water. Use only the pipes which are not connected to heating. This is because of the risk of copper poisoning from un-oxidised pipes.

Wow. I dunno you all change water by piping direct into the tank with Fish!

I thought u need to de-chlorinate first or let it aged ...

corydorus, yeah, some people do that![:]

but kelv's direct-in, direct-out. directly out into the toilet bowl, and that's how his little panda went swimming down the pipes...![]

kelv, no more distractions while changing water, ok?

Joe.. thanks.. this weekend perhaps ok?? will give u a call to collect it..

yeah.. some fishes are suicidal and they love the current created by the suction.. when i use those plastic pumps with tubes to change some amt of water.. those stupid bumblebee loves to attach themselves to the inlet.. making it a very stressful job for me to change water leh.. hobbies are suppose to help me destress.. not add on to it.. hahahaha[]

Flor.. i was not distracted.. but rather i took a bath eariler in the day.. and left the tap as such.. sigh.. next time just have to watch it.. luckily no losses yet.. hahaha.. [] and u have to remind me abt that panda.. now i feel so guilty.. hahaha.. but like what DEA had mentioned.. some fishes are asking for it.. hahaha..[]

To prevent fishes from being sucked into the hose, I secure a piece of netting over the inlet with a rubber band.

well.. Nizz told me to use those plastic pots that came with the potted aquatic plants and place it at the end to prevent any fishes from getting accidently sucked up and released.. using a netting over the inlet.. sometimes might not be effective especially when debris is ard.. unless netting is pretty big..[]

Hmmm... plastic plant pots is a pretty good idea too. Netting is when you're doing a water change only and not siphoning. For siphoning, I use a pail and the siphon tha comes with a pump. Better control and easy start-stop.

I don't siphon anymore either. Only do water top-up nowadays.
