    Tank size 190 Liter (50G) 90cm X 45cm X 45cm
    Light 180 watts (8~10 hours)
    Heavy planted

    Mixing a weekly dosing solution

    Weekly Dosage 30ml of the pre-mixed solution. (10ml X 3 a week)
Prepare pre-mixed solution in 250ml tap water:
    Ingrident
    KNO3 10tsp dry then the NO3 15.83ppm
    KH2PO4 0.5tsp dry then the PO4 1.20 ppm
    K2SO4 0 tsp dry then the SO4 0ppm

after that the K is 10.614422ppm from KNO3 and KH2PO4

This was all achieved using one of those excel based EI fertilizer calculations.
Does it seem correct? This would be a 2 month (8 week) stock solution.

If my take is 50G so approx 190 L (166 L if conisder substrate, rocks, plants, wood, etc) then my ranges should be:

    CO2 range 20-30 ppm
NO3 range 5-30 ppm (I'm in the mid range at 16ppm)
K+ range 10-30 ppm (I'm in the low at 10.6ppm)
PO4 range 1.0-2.0 ppm (I'm in the mid range at 1.2ppm)

Fe 0.2-0.5ppm or higher (this will come from CSM+B Plantex when arrives as it is high in Fe, now from liquid iron fertilizer)

Should I use more KN03 which would increase the K+ but would also increase the NO3 level? Or just I leave as is?

    Chuck's Planted Aquarium Pages

    States the same solution

    10tsp of KN03 in 250ml water gives NO3 as 1ml = 0.73ppm so 10ml would be 7.3ppm X 3 = 21.9ppm (weekly)

    0.5tsp of KH2PO4 in 250ml water would give P04 as 1ml = 0.04 so 10ml would be 0.4ppm X 3 = 1.2ppm weekly (which fits with what the excel sheet calculated)

10tsp of KN03 in 250ml water gives K as 1ml = 0.46ppm so 10ml would be 4.6ppm X 3 = 13.8ppm weekly (which is more than the other excel sheet calculated and not considering the small amount of K in KH2PO4

    Which is right?
Am I correct in assuming that my ranges:

    NO3 range 5-30 ppm
    K+ range 10-30 ppm
    PO4 range 1.0-2.0 ppm

Are based on the over all range in the tank in the course of a week. That is, with my solution of KNO3 the ppm of K+ is 13.8ppm as I add 30ml of the solution in the course of the week, and not 4.6ppm as that is the amount of the solution I add at each time.

Forget about the K+ if more than 50% of your NO3 comes from KNO3.

    More detailed explanation on why

Why go through the trouble of making so much stock solutions when dosing dry seems much more simple? 1/2 tsp of KNO3 and 0.125 tsp of KH2PO4 and perharps 1/2 tsp of Seachem Equilibrium after every water change and you are done for the macros.

Ok, Thanks for your reply. I understand that. I would rather not have to worry about adding something else, simplier is better, and I understand about the ratio between Nand K.

Reason I am starting the EI method is I have been having problems with the leaves of my plants having small holes in them and falling off rather quickly. This has never been a problem before in the past 1 1/2 years and I was mainly only dosing trace in liquid form (My local fish store with their huge display tanks say they only dose trace and high CO2). Well it worked fine until now. But now I realize a lot of my problems is from lack of K.

    Are my calculations correct?
Which is correct in the PPM ratio? Is that based on the total weekly addition or on the per dose ratio? I have heard it both ways and I can't figure which.

In my case if KNO3 solution and 1ml = 0.73ppm so 10ml (amount per dose) would be 7.3ppm and my weekly ratio would be 21.9ppm (as dosed 10ml 3 times a week) is that correct?

Or am I only dosing 7.3ppm (which is on the very low end of the range) as that is my per dose ppm?
