i'm serene... living in yishun...still a student, waiting to get into NUS... just finished A levels.
just discovered the stunningly beautiful world of fishes like, less than a month ago... since then i've spent all my allowance and my time buying fishes and sticking my face onto my tank... i might trade in my clothes and even my furniture for fish when i run out of cash hahahahahahaha just joking, la.
i specialise in guppies... my tank is a 12g nanocube (bought cheap from eBay!!!) with 2 wooden-block plants (i've yet to identify them), 14 guppies, 1 swordtail, 1 albino shark, 1 catfish, 2 red fishes, 1 dempsey cichlid, 1 pearl dem... something, 1 clown loach, 2 bleeding heart tetras and 10 very very pretty neon tetras...
i love my tank... i position it such that the first and last things that i see every morning and night are my fishes... they bring me such calm and joy...

Hi Chayedan, welcome to AQ! Welcome to the wonderful (and sometimes expensive ) world of fishkeeping!

12 gallons, that would be 50L or about 2' x 1' x 1'... Hmm... With the dempsey and the albino shark... I would expect fights and overcrowding soon! Oh, the dempsey is a nasty though pretty cichlid... Beware of your pretty guppies and neons ending up as cichlid feed!

Oh, bleeding hearts would appreciate more of their own... A small group of 6 would do them good. But they grow big and would actually do better in a 3ft or bigger tank...

What are red fish??? Seriously, you are the 2nd person who listed they have 'red fish'... Err...

Also, what is a pearl dem?

I am not throwing a wet blanket... Just to let you know some facts so you won't be disappointed if things happen later... We all start from the beginning and learn our way through.

thx for the great info, justikanz! it's really useful... my dempsey and sharkey (the albino shark) are still pretty reticent... placid fishies... or maybe bochup haha. i'm afraid of overloading... maybe wait till i get another tank then concentrate on tetras... hehe ^_^ but i do need another albino shark cos sharkey's so shy he doesn't get food fast enough at feeds... he just peeks timidly out of his plant-hole and scoots back in when he finally gets a bloodworm... :P i want him to have a mate so he can come out more... he's really beautiful ^_^

oh yeah. about the "mystical" red fishes, i swear they're really just labelled as "RED FISHES 50cents" at Wu Hu. hahahaha but they look like oversized mollies. without the black stripes. they're lean mean eating machines, too

Ok, Serene, I will have to keep the chat down. But bad news to you, sharks don't do good in groups, often fighting for territory. Good if you can take a pic of your 'Red fish' and post it for ID-ing. Fish also have personalities and their personal behaviour might differ from the general perceived behaviour. But , still, watch the dempsy in case it starts to terrorise the smaller fish. Ok, better stop the chatting!!
