yeah why not. UGFs are good for biological filtration, unless that is, you are planning a planted discus tank, then i'd suggest u switch from a UGF to a canister filter/other filters depending on the tank size. []

Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
but for discus tank, I am assuming there is going to be no plants lah, since if got plants means no UGF definitely.
UGF means got gravel, and discus you feed heavily with beefheart and it fouls easily... best is stick to bare tank and a good filter. External is the best.

Thanks guys for the advice.I just changed 2 a UGF yesterday and the water looks cleaner.Yes I do feed my discus with beef heart primarily and for snacks, tetrabits and bworms. But just enough to clear within 2 minutes.I changed my water today by attaching a hoe to the UGF air output so that the dirt under the gravel will be sucked out.It works!Looks like easier maintenance n cleaner tank for me!But the trick is to get a smalle hose to fit in the UGF air output casing.[]
If you setting up a discus only tank, better to use sponge filter (especially if you feeding heartmeals). I learnt it the hard way. Sponge filters are easy to clean and best of all, CHEAP.
I used canister once. Until i found all the leftover beefheart in the canister started to foul the water unless I clean the canister every 3 days.
Just my experience.
