What is C&C?
Very nice marble plakat you have! 4 rays on the caudal! Good posture and background. However, it will be perfect if the fish was parallel to the lens. Seems to be pointing slightly backwards.
Cheers,

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Yes. I realized that some area of the tail is a bit soft and it is not in a super flaring mood. Am I supposed capture it when it flare until the gill flaps come up? And I thought Betta will be easier to take than tetras... I guess not.
Actually, I counted up to 6 rays on the caudal fin... so meaning what?

Perhaps the depth of field could be improved by catching the fish in a parallel position? Better presention and better depth of field. Betta will usually required a lot more patience if you need the full flare with the crossed ventra fins. Otherwise, it's not too difficult.

CK, you using the EFS 60mm too?
feel that the framing is too central? Found that many of the shots I see in another site actually have the fish slightly to either the left or right of the frame thus giving the picture a sense of motion.
So maybe you want to crop the picture such that there is slightly more space to the left?
What do the rest think about this concept?
For profile shots, the sense of space is not so important. The exact details that can be seen visually is more critical. Such as scales, soft rays on the fins, etc.
If there is a bit of space and background, it will definitely make a more pleasant picture.

vincent, that's why I always call my pix "documentation" because it focus on presenting the details rather than photographic pleasantries. so it depends on what you want the picture to be. if to present the beauty of the fish, it may not even have to have the whole fish in focus, but the eyes MUST definitely be in focus, as in all portraits of living things.

For the purpose of discussing the composition only. I know the fish is not sharp.
Vincent, is this what you mean by space in front of the fish? For this pic, it happened that there are some plants to fill the space in the background to counterbalance a bit.
