Highest mountain in Shenzhen, 947 m ASL, 10 km from Luo Hu custom, by average I go to this mountain twice a month since last Aug.

Got a few streams in this area, this is one of them.

    closer look

After so many times, finally got my most wanted target last weekend..

Hong Kong Newt (Paramesotriton hongkongensis), I think available in SG too. key point is to flip big stones in slow flowing area.

The juv, around 1 cm, maybe go back in feb, march, april to capture their growing up image, then ultimate goal is mating pic in the wild..damn I didn't visit the habitat from Oct to Dec last year..

Can also catch platy here, thanks to a fish farm nearby.

Other fishes like Parazacco spilurus, Pseudogastromyzon myersi, Liniparhomaloptera disparis, Oreonectes platycephalus, Pterocryptis anomala, Rhinogobius duospilus, mosquito fish lah, swamp eel lah, wheather loach lah bla bla..then a little bit interesting fish is Tanichthys albonubes, most likely introduced, as usual, number was low. hmmmm..

The most interesting fish here is Glyptothorax pallozonum!!

    Still got snakes & frogs....

Definitely my fav weekend outdoor spot, MRT = RMB 3.00 x 2, Bus = RMB 2.00 x 2, Mineral water RMB 2.00 x 1, BreadTalk RMB 6.00 x 2, total cost of SGD 5 to spend a fishy weekend in Shenzhen city area.

I had a vision of swordsmen in grey wearing topknots for their hair when I saw your thread title.

    Sorry, momentary lapse into cornyness.

I wonder what fishes we might find in places like 武当山 and 峨眉山?

    hwchoy,

I'm sure for you, everything can be arranged. Would you prefer to be clobbered or drugged? However, exotic experiences like these don't come cheap.

    Cheers,

Very safe. I heard last time got but now there are many visitors, never hear that kind of news liao. This stream is only 10 mins from the main gate then the other stream is like 20 mins walk.

LZ, 20 mins on taxi from Shangri-la, cost RMB 35.00 +-.

quite safe but increasingly unsafe .... surrounding towns and cities are infested with crimes. Guangzhou being the worst, someone is robbed, cut, clobbered, maybe drugged every few hours.
how about this, guangdong province alone has 25% of China's total police force.

but dont let this deter you, like what benny said, exotic experiences comes at a price.

Dress low key and dress poor, don't go bragging you are rich
Then you fit in and folks don't go thinking things.

I do that here but for friendly information and humbleness.
The local folks are apt to help you rather than shun, beat or rob you
Social skills can really help and can save you a lot more than you think.

    Regards,

Use a smaller camera, eg a Canon powershot S3 IS.
Use it and show it only to take a pic.
If you make it easy for folks to see it, then it's like a unlocked door in a house.
If there are a bunch of you, then it's much harder also.

    Regards,
