    Hi to all

Would like to discuss the effects on the addition of salt in tank water.

REad from another forum, some "saint" comment that addition of salt will affect the water pH.

    So, any comments?

Reminds me the 'salt' sold to create suitable hard water for African cichlids...I think mineral salts will affect the pH of water rather than normal table salt.

chemically, sodium/potassium chloride, calcium carbonate etc are all 'salts' but the former doesn't affect carbonate hardness.

    Don think salt raise ph.

Ever made an experiment with PH pen in the water. Don affect at all.

But it do affect the purity of the water.

Another pen that test purity of water also in the water while doing the test.

Great minds think alike and feel alike too!

At one time I thought I'm the only one who had this kind of feeling.[]

    What a relief

So, any good side of adding salt into the tank for the fishes??? Anyone??

Adding salt kind of help fishes to breathe better as it expand the gills or something.

Do knows it relieve stress, espically obvious when introducing new fish into tank.

Heard about 0.01% is good, never bother, usually one tiny small portion each time I change 30%.

Too much will kill them too

I think it depends on which 'salt' you add. So many kinds out there just for aquarium for different purposes. Sounds like the 'saint' is un-informed or mis-informed.

Yeah, feel the same about the yaya factor over there. []

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

I tried table salt for treating white spots, so far it works well for all the diseases I treated as well as for injuries...But don't know long term got any side effects?
