Are this 2 diseases the same? I've read on websites that these 2 diseases tend to be lumped together? How do I differentiate the disease if it's different?

    Thanks in advance

    here is what i understand

chief cause of malawi bloat is the feeding of inapproprait diet. To be specific, feeding meaty food to herbivorous fish, which many africans are. Herbivores have much longer digestional tracts. They cannot handle the meaty food if fed excessively. As a result, some are "stuck" in their intestines. ANd as a result of that, secondary internal bacteria infection may occur. and this brings abt dropsy.

Dropsy, on the other hand, can be due to other reasons besides malawi bloat (eg water quality)

So, it is inevitable they are linked together, coz of this sequential relationship
but they are not exactly one another

    ehh
    not exactly
u can get malawi bloat without dropsy and vice versa
but malawi bloat can conceivably make the fish more susceptible to dropsy for a double whammy
