Forgot to add... mine is a 2 ft tank. Thanks
I have a very "green-ish" tank so I would like to add some colour it.
I am comtemplating getting some non-green crypts... I do know that there are probably a few species available but I don't really know their names.
Can anyone help? Not the too exotic kind lah, the easily available kind...
Thanks in advance...

I found that strong lighting lightning really brings out the colours, here is Cryptocoryne undulate, and it is a robust grower reaching about 12 - 16 inches

When planting crypt... those I took back for my office tank, has very long roots... will triming the roots short affect the plant? it is impossible to plant with ½ to 1ft roots...
Baby Steel!
Thanks Rupert and Wackytpt for your help!
limsteel: Cutting the roots will not affect the crypt. I've done it before myself when i upgraded my tank and in fact, the crypt propagated more plantlets after that.. But then again, I don't know whether cutting the roots is ok for all species of crypts. Mine is the common greenish crypt with long leaves (Sorry, again, I have no idea what species I have )

when i replant my crypts, i actually wack off all the root.
but i do allow one or two of the bigger root to stay if i think it will be hard for me to keep them in the substrate.
the reason i do this because the root always inevitably die off.
so i see no point in keeping the roots.
also, if you place an extra substrate fert like root monster/ferka/7-balls they will really takeoff in growth.

Thanks.. does root cutting applies to all rooted plants as well (except for nana, moss, ferns...)?
Baby Steel!
It is better to trim the roots if you're uprooting and replanting, this will first of all, make the replanting process much easier and secondly, have your re-planted plants to take a foothold faster.
I normally trim all my re-planted plant roots (be it the various crypts, nanas, etc) to about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the crown, I'll leave the nana roots longer of course.
One thing about re-planting of crypts, prepare for a bit of rot/melting of the leaves
Anyways, for other than green crypts, I find that under good lighting, Cryptocoryne x willisii gives a brown tint to the leaves. Of course, Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Mi Oya', Cryptocoryne undulata are nicer.

It is been a week, All my small crypt (parva, i think) leaves melted, now other then traces of melted stem and expose roots, nothing can be seen on the gravel surface. Balansae also melting. everything is melting.
How long does it takes for the crypt to regenerate?
Baby Steel!
You should see new leaf in a week.
