Got a question pertaining to the above..

I store my BBS eggs in the refrigerator. Brand is Angel. I started to hatch them yesterday afternoon.. it's been almost 24 hours and they do not seem to have hatched.

    1. How long does it take for them to hatch?
    2. how do you know whether they have hatched? i know it's a stupid question. but can you see them? As i looked into the bottle, they do not seem to wriggle...
    3. how long can they last with just air bubble?

Jeffrey, it should hatch around 24 hours. Your Apistogramma agassiizi spawned already?

I'm not sure about the hatch rate of this brand of eggs. Normally I will go to reputable discus shop to buy the brine shrimp eggs.

Most likely, all the eggs will never hatch. The brand you used is not reliable. I started out with OceanFree bs eggs. Said on package 99% hatch rate. In the end, 0% hatch rate. Paid 18bucks to throw the bottle into the rubbish bin. Felt really cheated.

Get the brand from Brine Shrimp Direct. Its a US brand i think. C328 sells. So much cheaper then OceanFree bs eggs and so effective. Hatch rate is easily over 70%

    As for your questions.
    1) they hatch between 12-24hrs
    2) Hatched eggs float, un-hatched sinks
    3) They can last around 3 days with an airstone.

I've bought a big can of brine shrimp eggs from C328, brand is brineshrimpdirect
Eggs are premium grade, over 90% hatch rate....

    Formula:
    3/4 of 1.5L water
    1 tablespoon marine salt
    2 pinch od BS eggs
    Light from nightlight

Usually hatches in 12hrs time and the bbs can last for 3-4 days.....

Here's my simple setup....and I hatches bbs everyday

    Hope this helps

Eman, is there a need for the night light? Only if you lived in Jurong, otherwise would have buy bbs from you every other day.

Thanks for the offer guys, I wish I could share the bbs with you too

The nightlight is used to encourage the eggs to break out faster, i read it somewhere that the light helps the bbs break through its shell....something like that, can't really remember what exactly it was....

I've tried hatching with and without the nightlight, end up the result being using nightlight yields the best results...

    Hi guys,
Have been using the hatchery dish to hatch BBS. Very effective and clean..
    Here's the link: http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/Art...Dish-c115.html

Do not know whether if there is anyone still selling in Singapore.
But i do remember that there is once a mass order in arofanatics.

Is the hatchery as good as it was advertised on the site?
If it is and there is demand, a mass order could be considered here in AQ.

    Hi Jeff,

There is a LFS in Jurong East (Eight Star) selling a bottle of BBS eggs with 90% hatch rate and I have tied it. It works!! It will hatch at about 24 hrs but I think temperature play a part. On hotter days, it seesm to hatch faster.

You may want to give it a try.

the light is needed for BS eggs to hatch.
they are light sensitive and it triggers some hatching response.
if you have been to biotope you should see their setup.
thio has a FL tube running 24 by 7.

It is really good. No need air bubbles. i can wash my bbs under the tap before feeding using the scoop provided .
One thing that is good is that my feeding tank are all free from BBS egg shell.
I am using the 80% hatch rate BBS, and there is not much difference from using the conventional method of hatching.

there seems to be an effort in AF to do a mass order for this hatching dish, but unfortunately it did not work out....I wonder why?

What about decapsulated brine shrimp eggs? just re-hydrate and feed, no need to hatch....anyone tried this before?

Meaning? Was there sufficient interest from the members in the forum?
But if there is at least 15 orders here, it should not be an issue to order en-masse here.

Might even be possible to order other stuff from BrineShrimpDirect together to save cost if there is interest.

Yeah actually wanted to get one from Arofanatics mass order but miss the boat. Best thing about it I feel is electric-free. If there's going to be a mass order, I will get one.

I've read about this device. The hatched bbs will swim towards the centre because there's light coming from surroundings.
