Lepidocephalichthys furcatus
more loaches from the peat stream of Southern Pahang. same species?
2cm SL, intense colours and spots, barbels looked singed!!!
3.5cm SL, resembles the first specimen in the caudal fin colours and spots, but body lacks spots, just lateral stripe. however both specimens have diagonal eye band.
here's a 2cm specimen with dorsal fin erected.
I should also note that of a batch of seven specimens in a tub, the first one is absolutely much darker in colour (dorsal view) and always stays by itself, away from the other six which is usually clustered together.
** OK I just checked all the rest, all are fish number two (6 specimens, all are around 2cm except one at 3.5cm), only one is fish number one.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

HH,
Good to see you here!! Didn't realise you've registered since Sep 06. We could certainly benefit from your wealth of knowledge.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Will loaches be classified as under the Cyprinids too?

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...
Loaches are cypriniforms, so this forum should be more appropriately named the cypriniform forum.
HH
it was too late when I was posting for me to double check if loaches falls under cyprinid. but the subforums are not really organised along the proper taxon.
I guess we could move the loaches under cyprinid, perhaps HH can suggest how to properly organise the subfora?

Well, I am interested to find out. Most books would list it as under cyprinids. But are they really? Or just 'relatives'... Just trying to learn more... Starting with these generic families...
