this one works for me, although some minor adjustments in photoshop might improve it even more. possibly reframe a bit so that the subject is no so dead centre. but it depends on the intend of the picture, whether as a record of the object, or as "photography".

the rest are pretty much nondescript, and having poor contrast. the limau is also rather under exposed. if you intend these as photography, then you must pay attention the background and either do something about it (shifting your angle to avoid building, fences, bricks, etc) or find something else to shoot.

Most of them do appear to be underexposed. Perhaps you have not calibrated your monitor yet.

Yup, the photos looks a tad underexposed. Try using a flash for fill-in. It will perk up the photos tremendously.

If you have a SB600 or SB800, try using TTL-BL mode with about -1 to -1.67 EV flash compensation.

Flash is not need per se. But it helps to give nicer contrast and details in your subject.

Trying using in M mode when using flash in TTL mode. In this way, you can meter the ambient light and set the shutter speed/aperture according to the ambient light. The TTL flash will adjust itself accordingly.

Chee Wei, try out M mode. Opens up a whole new world with it.
Give you all the control that you can work with. Plus Nikon has very good TTL in their flashes. Much better than Canon as mentioned by a photographer friend.

if you are new I think you should try aperture priority mode first. learn to control the depth of field. you still can play with exposure in the post processing (I hope you use RAW or NEF) but DOF is done when you shoot.

Some Lily. This place had Paros and wild bettas when I came here in late 80s.

The rest are in .NEF but I can't open

You will need to covert the NEF to JPG format with the converter program I think. Not familiar with the Nikon system.

the software that came with the camera has a RAW convertor. Photoshop also have plug-ins that can open NEF files. Irfanview can also read NEF.

your camera should have come with a CD. the last three pix are pretty good image wise. just composition needs working on. highlight exposure for Nikon is great as usual.

think the usage of some rules of third will help the pics much more in terms of composition.

composition first, then comes the technique.

    my 2 cents =)
