Looks like a really small bird. About the size of your fist?
Lovely, creamy background.
Cheers,

I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
give and take, about there.
Usually how far are these birds away when you took the pictures.
They are sharp and there's catchlights in those eyes as well!

Yah. I have the same question as KF. When I see the catchlight, I will think they are about 60m? Given that even if 580EX, the maximum range is around there, plus you have -3 on your flash.
I doubt flash is used. It will scare the birds away, right?

I think Mervin makes good use of his 580EX all the time.

Thanks for all the kind comments mates.
To flash or not to depends on the birds and it enviroment.
I normally will shoot some "insurance" shots 1st without flash just in case it decideds to fly off when my cam go click click click !
If its still there, flashing will come in, however on that note, flash for noctural birds like owls are a big NO NO !!!!
Distance to bird, it all depends on the birds comfort zone.
My lens min. forcusing distance is 6m, therefore i will go as close as possible to fill the frame, within the min. forcusing distance and just at the edge of the discomfort zone of the birdies !
Flashing - Benny is the Champs on the discipline of photography.
Perhaps he can elborate most on it.
Must salute you for being so patient to capture those nice shots...
Do you ever have to leopard-crawl to near your target in a ghilly suit?
