    Hi all

I noticed that one of my 3 rummy noses's mouth wouldn't close. It is not eating anymore and the tummy is flat. Gills are red. and it's mostly at the bottom of the tank hiding amongst plants.

What disease is that and what can I do to save my rummynose? Please help
    Thanks ahead.

It's a case of locked jaws. It happens to quite a lot of fishes and unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. Cause of this phenomenon is not clear. Sometimes, they recover by themselves. More often than not, they starve to death.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I have quite a few cases of this with my cardinal tetras. Never succeeded in saving them. All seemed to have problem eating and eventually starved to death.

    Hi Unicorn555

Was very tempted to perform that manual jaw unlocking stunt like you suggested but they are really little! yaiks! Would end up crushing the entire mouth i guess.
Anyway that poor rummy passed on this morning in the midst of plants, tummy sucked in and eyes popped. Sad case.
    Very poor thing....

i have been keeping neons and rummy noses for quite a long time but i have had no experience with this disease before.i only know that my tetras actually gorge themselves till they can't move anymore.lol .but i think should be able to manually unlock their jaws probably???no experience anyway.

I feel if encounter this again, should try to unlock the jaw manually as there is still a chance to save them. If 'operation' success, the fish leave longer, if Not success, it died (Anyway, it will eventually died with the diease, why still let it suffer the pain and hungry till died?). Hee... am i cruel?

Not that cruel la Unicorn! Should give it a shot since the poor fellow is going to starve to death anyway. Hahaha

Have you guys noticed how your livestock behave when tank temperature rises? It's been blazing hot these few days and my tetras are not eating well. They seem to be hanging near the surface. Kinda worried that they might not take the 'heat'.

And oh just bought an oto last night but passed on this afternoon, tummy sunken in! haiz! not much luck lately, very sad.

Babygrand, Weather is hot. but there are a few ways to prevent tank temperature to shot up. Examples:
    1) Invest in a chiller
    2) Install cooling fan to enhance evaporation to achieve cooling effect
    3) Change water more often
    4) throw ice into tank ocassionally maybe in the noon (If working, do it when you are back. Heee....
(But never let your fish drink 7-Up. Hahaha...)

I myself use cooling fan. Evaporation occurs alot recently and i have to top up water every 2 days. haiz.... My waterbill going up..

Thanks ha Unicorn555. Planted tank is beautiful but very tricky to maintain. I hope i still have enough patience left. My whole 6G tank just went thru a hasty WC!! Gulp! After the oto passed on, all the rest started fainting one by one.
I'm prepared for the worst tomo morning. Haiz
