How does one leave the house with this thing? I think one carrying handle is definitely not enough.

It will be 1000mm F5.6 with a 2X teleconverter. But they have cleverly left out the weight in the announcement.

The spirit may be willing, the flesh is definitely weak on this one! I'll pass.

    Cheers,

I won't be surprise that you need a 2-man crew to operate this monster...

It really look more like a weapon than a camera equipment. Can you imagine you carrying it as a hand-luggage up a plane? The security will probably mistake you carrying a manpad.

I think carry on hand lugguage allowance is only 7 kg. Have to check in. Besides, it cannot fit in the overhead compartment and you'll get hernia for trying to haul it up there. Getting it down later will also be a problem!

The Nikkor 800mm that existed is a MF lens... no VR.

I can still recall the day I was playing with the Canon EF 1200 mm F5.6 at the World Trade Centre. I think the lens was about 16 kg and the dedicated tripod was another 8 or so. Canon just park the big gun outside of the exhibition hall with 2 part timers and anyone could have a go at it. I don't think anyone can do a snatch and run with that baby. I could see the ticketing counter at Sentosa so very clearly from World Trade Centre through the lens.
