Another new species of mammal from Borneo (& also Sumatra): clouded leopard. It is totally different species compared to the Clouded leopard from mainland Asia & Peninsular Malaysia!!!

    According to "The Star" news:

"The secretive rainforest animal was originally thought to be the same species as the one found in mainland South-East Asia, WWF said in a statement yesterday.

“The moment we started comparing the skins of the mainland clouded leopard and the leopard found on Borneo, it was clear we were comparing two different species,” said Dr Andrew Kitchener, from the Department of Natural Sciences of National Museums Scotland."

Mikey, these are not actually leopard cat right? how big are these?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

actually, they are much larger than leopard cats.... almost small leopard sized (body length up to 90 cm) and the closest thing to sabre-tooths.... as they have the longest canines relative to body size.... i.e. tiger-sized fangs on a small leopard body..

so far the most comprehensive report here: http://rmbr.nus.edu.sg/news/index.ph...lis_diardi.txt
