Today, my friends & I went to visit a Bidayuh longhouse at Padawan area & the nearby waterfalls. There are a lot of waterfalls near the Sarawak -Kalimantan border.

Bamboo bridge crossing; Bamboo is very important material for building houses or bridges in the remote areas.

A long staircase to an old Bidayuh longhouse at Simunti village.

The longhouse is built above the ground. The poultry is kept under the longhouse.

    The corridor of the longhouse:

Everyone in the longhouse is so friendly. This old lady is posing for me to do her daily work.....dry up those edible seeds (not idea what it is in English). She is purposely carrying a basket using her head. In Borneo, the native people mostly carrying the basket using the head.

    Preparing food for the lunch.

    A cascade.

My outdoor friends, Hong Dak & Ivy are so excited to explore this hidden waterfall.

We are stunned to see this beautiful ravine where a small stream is running across it.

At the end of the ravine is a cascade which the water is pouring out from a hole.

Hi, I'm jungle Mike. I'm getting wet just bacause I want to photograph this secret paradise. (Some parts of the stream are very deep)

I can't believe to find this jewel orchid which looks very similar to Dossinia marmorata. But if you look carefully, the pattern on the leaf is different and somemore, D. marmorata is restricted to limestone area. There is no limestone in this area.

Begonia sp. I found 3 species of Begonia in this area, but only photographed this one.

    The wild star fruits:

Piptospatha grabowskii (aroid) is found abundantly here:

Bucephalandra motleyana (aroid) is found abundantly in the upper part of the stream:

There are too many places to explore in Padawan. Hopefully, next month I'll go to the most remote longhouse in that area & over night there.
