Guys, got told my eel will love squid...so i ask my dad to get me some on his way home from work...
Only thing is, my dad thought i meant fresh squid, not frozen..
So he came home with a big ol' slimy squid...
I chopped the squid up, and loads of ink came out!
    Anyway..
How should i prepare it? i have just cut it up into edible (for the eel) sized peices, washed it very thoroughly, and fed it to the eel..well, only 2 peices of it..
Oh, and i threw the "ink shooter" (please excuse the term!) and the jaw away..
everywhere else is ok to feed, right? including the tenticles?
So far, it has had a small amount of tenticle, and some flesh..
    Thanks,
    James

clownfish.. if james do that, his eel will be in "heaven".. hahaha..

anyway james, squid, whether frozen or fresh, is fine.. just like u mentioned, removed the jaws and ink squirter.. it should be fine.. the rest of the parts can be fed to the eel.. no prob..

do they have those supermarkets in england?? if so, try to find chopped and frozen type.. so that u can keep them inside the fridge.. oh yes.. do take a pic of the eel.. i would love to see it..

u can use fresh squid the same, only the hassle of cutting & cleaning yourself. To make a purchase last, u can cut it up & freeze a portion or small portions accordingly in small ziplock bags. you're right to throw away the insides & jaw-actually u can throw away the upper part of the head, keeping the tentacles.
If ur eel eats squid then u have more food varieties to rotate.
if u can't get silvers- u can subsitute wif a fillet of cheap fish(cod,haddock,plaice,sole)-cut it up & freeze.
mackerel is an oily fish & u may see oil patches if u use slices of it but it does attract predators(i used it as bait before for pike)so up to u to experiment.

If u freeze fresh squid- should last 2-4 weeks before it loses taste as it breaks down(decays)& dehydrates.
The shrimp we discuss previously are fresh over here so i have to freeze them as well. 4 weeks before it smells.
i also use fresh squid & mussels prepared the same way occasionally-(depends if its on offer at the supermarket)-.....kel & u wonder why all my fish so fat.
If u can get hold of liquid vitamins-then soak prepared foods in it & u will see ur fish glow.

Mez Remember to thaw before feeding.
