u saw the tiny Scarlet Badis aka Badis sp. "Scarlet". it's a very small species and most of those u see for sale are males. females are very hard to come by. they eat very small live foods but will be happy to eat frozen foods, especially frozen daphnia and bloodworms, provided they're big enough to eat them cos most of those sold in the lfs are still young males. oh yes, another thing, they're cave spawners.

thank you all for the info. mine's a red colour which is not in any of the pics though.
one guy bred the scarlet badis.
however his little things scattered the eggs in javamoss and not a cave...
hope mine will breed too !!

hi
before you invest in these guys, please take note
they CANNOT outfight other fish for food
i have not seen a badis manage to get food before the rest of the fish
they're more suited to scavenging for food
if you have javamoss in abundance (especially on logs) they'll do splendidly
the thicker the moss, the better they like it
apparently they thrive on small organisms living inside
Yimin, for the very small scarlet badis, how many should I get to live with about 30 harlequins and pencilfishes?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

HWChoy,
How about placing a worm cup in your tank?
I realised though they dun fight for the food, but once they know that worms is always fed through the worm cup, they will always hang around the cup waiting for food leh.
Well, at least my badis do that.

that's an idea
but other fish will be doing the same thing, no?
anyway, i don't recommend keeping them in a community tank
a species tank will really be the best for these guys
Well, yes... some of the fish will too stay around the worm cup. But at least the badis had a small share of it too!----------------
