    WAH!!! congrats to u !!!

and now the question is do u wish to keep the fries?? cos the eggs will hatch but before that happens ur salvini pair will be very aggressive towards other fish in the tank even if they r larger.

if ur tank is big say 4' then the chances fries growing up is better but i fear in the end will still be eaten up by other fish in the same tank. so if u intend to keep the babies then remove the eggs along with the parents to another tank. the pair will care for the babies quite a while.

good luck and do update us with lots of pics

the eggs will hatch in 3 days' time. and its best to remove the pair and the eggs now so that they can settle down in the new tank quickly before the eggs hatch.

of cos u run the risk of them eating the eggs if u delay too long during the transferring to new tank or do the transfer itself after another day.

the pair must not be separated btw, or else the bonding maybe lost.

I have two salvinis which have grown to about 2"+ now, am thinking of transferring them into my 4ft tank which holds all the big bullies. Are they ready to defend themselves if I do that?

I dun recommend this but if you want, you can try. I left the 2.5 inch red terrors you got for me with 7-inch red devils and the jaguars, but I just sat and observed from a point where the fishes couldn't see me. This is a very risky operation...

I think you wait for the salvinis to grow bigger first but hopefully, the fishes in your 4ft won't grow at the same rate as your salvinis...

my salvinis laid their eggs in a hole in limestone rock. when i discovered this, the eggs had hatched and the fries were in the hole liao. both male and female were very protective of them. BUT some of the fries just swam out and got eaten right before my eyes, so i quickly transferred them out to my 'fry tank'. anyway the fries are in the fry tank without their parents. Managed to salvage most of them I think. Lets just monitor the progress of the fries for casualties. Will be giving some away when they are bigger, anybody wants them? pm me with your contact no. but you guys will need to bring your own bags hor if you can.

douglas your salvini pair is just a little young
just give them sometime in the future.

the ideal size for a full grown pair (5-7&quot is at least a 3ft for them alone. if they have to compromise in a smaller space, they will never get to their potential size and also full colour (yes, lest we think we are already seeing their best colour)

Issac, if there are enough hiding places , your salvinis can survive. They are very tough and know how to take care of themselves and get ard aggressors.

Tried to put the salvinis into the 4ft but the RTs and the texas went after them and tore some of their fins. The Jag got aggressive towards the rest too. So I took them out.

Douglas, seems like the parents had placed the frys somewhere when they hatched instead of eating the eggs.

even up till now, it will take me a long time to find the wrigglers. SOmetimes only the confidence that a pair is a true pair had me continue to search. If not , yeah, sometimes it looks as if everything had disappeared.

do not feed them anything now.

they still have their egg sacs on.

feed when they are free swimming..which is abt 3-5days..depending. But when they free swim, its obvious.
can use liquid fry food initially then get some frozen daphnia (hikari has them packed the way bloodworms are packed)

or you can try hatch BBS

lsz......the problem is there is another female also lay eggs(i suspect)cause the same pattern as the first spawn.
just worry that when the fries start to free swim they might be eaten up by the other female and btw which type of liquid fry food is good.
