air stone
Hi guys,
Like to hear your comments on which is the best method for dissolving oxygen in the water for my pleco tank.
1. Spraybar above water level or just right below water level
2. Air venturi thru filter output
3. Air Stone(smaller bubbles) or sponge filter (bigger bubble) or air curtain?
4. Surface skimmer?
air stone
Or air curtain, imo. I think mainly aesthetics, though air curtain will probably have better 'coverage'.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Air curtain ! cheers!

venturi through filter output. that should give u max oxygenation. the rapid flow of water from the output dissolves oxygen faster. in combination with an airstone/air curtain, u'll get more oxygenation.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
hardcore hillstream loach (super high oxygen addicts) keepers will install four or more parrallel powerheads at one end of the tank just below the surface - tada, instant hillstream.
Sorry again, how do you guys prevent those tiny bubbles from spraying all over the corner of the tank, other than having a lid? Mine is a 2ft only and I had to find the exact "middle" spot if not those water droplets will be all over the corner of the tank. I have already lowered the water level.. now using the output of the filter to "push" to bubbles hopefully can saturated it? dont know if it'll work.. ;p
spraybar above the water level - surface agitation produce the most dissolved oxygen
(sigh - if only we could ask the fish)
planted tank with oxygen bubbling
no contest, yes? lol
but for practical concerns i'd go with the skimmer
all the methods work about there
i like the skimmer cos it clears up the surface film
I"d go with spray bar cuz
1)no bubbles spoiling your view of your tank (unless you like the bubbles)
2) less bubble burst and water splashing up on sides of tank
3) keeps water surface moving for gd oxygenation
4) if placed above water surface, the sound of water tricking or spraying down on water can be soothing
but I have to agree that the best is planted tank!! the carpet of riccia with bubbles are like mini oxygen tanks at nite, slowly dissolving pure oxygen into the water![]
I'll use trickle filtering system as it pumps back well oxygenated water to the tank. But still use extra pump in the tank since most plecos like strong current.
