Picked up a few of these today. Needless to say, they were in the same tank as P. kuhlii and sold as such.

yes, P. shelfordii or P. muraeniformis depending on where they came from. see http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=17664
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

No idea on the locality, so P. shelfordii it is. As far as I have read and understand, it is just a preference for the name and not due to different morph yeah?

Doubt they're a different species = they are the same species. I think you meant to say that you doubt they are the same species = they are different species.

Yes, they are different species alright.

?!? What a find! I've always wanted to breed these!
I believe P. shelfordii is extinct locally as well. Wow! I'm just so blown away that someone brought them in! can i say that again? WOW!!

I've had limited success with P. khulii(4 fry in 2 years survived to adulthood), i wonder if the conditions would work with shelfordii...

Rushed down yesterday on seeing this post. When I saw the tank, there were only 2 left with some kuhlis. Spotted a tail sticking out from the gravel and prodded it with the net. Suddenly about 10 of these bursted out from the lapis.

Not too sure, but I don't think the water conditions would differ very much. Why wait, go grab some!

    So you got all 10?

One thing I noticed is that they tend to dig and hide under the gravel a lot. I didn't really noticed this behaviour with my kuhliis. Makes for interesting observation, but the moment I released them in my tank, they disappeared. Sadly, I have not seen them since, although I am pretty sure they are still alive, hiding somewhere.

Interesting... though i don't really like the idea of them burrowing around in my ADA soil. It'll probably cloud everything up.

I don't think they will burrow if you have place for them to hide. Mine now hangs out with my kuhlis in the java fern and comes out for food. The ones at the shop had nowhere to hide.

Isn't an organism said to be expatriated when it's extinct from a particular location? Or am i misusing the term?

    Hi all

Can the Pangio family live in a community tank with Apistogrammas, Checkerboards, Rasboras, lampeyes and shrimps?
