How you guys feeding them? I was told that they need to eat snail otherwise their teeth will keep growing and killing them.

yeap, otherwise their teeth will get really long and it will impede on their eating, in turn starving them to death. There is an article on practical fishkeeping where they file the teeth away.

Why not try feeding clams from the market? Or you can hunt for snails in the canals near the sea.

I will actually go out on a limb and say that it is not necessary for dwarf puffers to file their beaks. I have never had problems with the growing of their beaks in my experiences in keeping them.

Their diet consists of live tubifex, live brine shrimp, frozen bloodworm and frozen brine shrimp. No snails. However, they will love and relish snails, so it would be good to be included in their diet if you can.

Basically, I share the same sentiments as what is mentioned on this excellent website on dwarf puffers.
    http://www.dwarfpuffers.com

As far as Dwarf Puffers needing snails in their diet to "wear down" their teeth, it has been agreed upon by most in the forum that they are not necessary for this. Dwarf Puffers seem to have no problems at all with overgrown teeth (unlike almost all other puffer species).

    yeap.

for me. i feed them blood cockles bought from the market.

i will remove the shell. then place the meat and shell nicely in the tank tucked neatly in the substrate

so the puffers will then start biting and attacking the cockle till the already loosen shell falls apart revealing the meat.

i think this is a good exercise when i can't afford to provide snails to feed them.

last time they were so ferocious till the cockle gut and sand was flying all over the place. will try to capture it on video next time.

Actually you can try the 'lala' clams, snails or mussels from the wet market instead. Cockles are dug up from the mudflats and their guts are full of it. Messes up the water alot more. I'd think the live clams may survive in brackish water so you can try keeping them in a betta box in the tank out of reach of the puffers until you need them.

I have a dwarf puffer too. I used to keep the small guy separately in a nano tank, but now he is in my 3 foot community planted tank. No more snails!

I feed him frozen bloodworms, and occasionally small beefheart bits (leftover from feeding the discus).
