    Hello all!

I'm new to planted tanks and Singapore (well, I've been here since October, but consider myself still new). A friend of a friend recently donated his tank (I'm guessing it's around 200L, will confirm tonight) to my new hobby.

I have kept a 60L South American themed tank before with dwarf cories, otos, cockatoo apistos. I had my betta in there before the apistos were in. He was very happy. I was quite happy with my little green underwater forest, but my aquascaping experience ended sadly when blue-green algae started suffocating all my plants.

With this new tank I intend on having a South East Asian Biotope. I intend on keeping a school of barbs or rasboras, a few pairs of guaramis, and some bottom dwellers like khuli loaches. I love bettas and think it would be beautiful to have a bunch of them in such a large tank. But I don't know how the male's long fins will work with schooling fish or whether they would get along with the guaramis. Anyone with experience with bettas in community tanks, please do share! If anyone has any recommendations for local fish that I don't know of, I'm all ears.

I guess this is just an intro note. I still consider myself very much a beginner in the fish keeping world and very novice in water plants. At the moment I'm staying near the Orchard MRT and need to find an LFS so I can check out some fish. Not sure how much you want me to blabber on. Just let me know if you have any questions about me )

    cheers,
    maia

    Welcome aboard AQ!!!

Keong Seong at Havelock Road is the nearest LFS to Orchard Road imo. Another place near is Wu Hu beside Tiong Bahru Market.

    Hi maia,

    Welcome to AQ!

There are many LFS that can be visited by MRT. That should not be an issue at all. The question is which one as each of these LFS excel in different areas of the hobby.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi everyone!

Nope, not Japanese. But I was born in Tokyo I just moved here from Amsterdam.

I did the measurements and it's about 150 gallons.

First step, where can I go to get some substrate! MRT or taxi distance from Orchard MRT or City Hall MRT (work) would be good. I want to get some water in there so I can start cycling. I also want to check out fishies!

Yah, for sure up for a trip to the LFS.

I called a few aquarium shops today to find out if they have black gravel. Is it just me, or does no one at fish stores speak english?!?!? Maybe my phone is broken, but they couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand them.
