Is this for otocinclus??
Is this for otocinclus??
Hahaha... yes sir, for Oto and the likes.
If i am not wrong, i think its the portion of the eye where there is a divide..
If you look into the Otos eye.. you can see some have perfectly round pupils and some have pupils that have a little slit that comes out of them.. that slit.. i think is the iris diverticulum
Thanks, let me go scrutinise some pictures first...
seems like all of the armoured cats have this cat-eye like iris,
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Actually it is used to tell some species apart... some of them don't have it..and some of them do. Sometimes even length of this portion is important...at least that is what i read.
That's what I read in PlanetCatfish on how to tell O. affinis apart from others. From a lot of pictures labelled as O. affinis that I have seen, they are definitely not the real deal (according to the keys given by PCF).
So the picture I posted is affinis or vittatus?
Not O. affinis for sure, could be O. vittatus or O. vestitus or ....
I think there is a post somewhere asking about the differences. There are basically 3 keys to identifying O. affinis. I will reply the post and cross link here.
(when I have time... stuck with work at the moment)
