    It could be possible.
Woo... Biotope actually brought in some new fish...

Should still have one whole tank... Everyone still think it is a off-coloured Ruby, so movement pretty slow. Go check it out.

Edit: Only found one photo online which might show that the fish is indeed Axelrodia stigmatias. Can't find any clearer pictures.

The amount of red at the caudal seems to be more than that in the fish from Biotope.

    Hi Guys,
Sorry to bring up an old thread.
Spoke to Lester from Polyart @ Blk 328 about the Ruby Tetras that they are carrying right now. I bought 12 pcs from them recently thinking they are off color Rubys. But even after acclimatisation and providing the right conditions, the colors don't show.
My personal research tells me that those there are more likely to be A. Stigmatias (aka, Pepper Tetra / White Cross Tetra).
Yet speaking to a supplier who happened to be with Lester when I found him, the supplier tells me that those in stock all around the island are all "confirm" Rubys just off color.

    Whom shall I trust here?

Very often, even the suppliers don't know!
They just know that the piece of invoice of the importation says they are A.riesei.

One very good example is the "C.hastatus" at NKS. Invoice says that it is C.hastatus but the fact is, the fish is C.pygmaeus. It is not the fault of the shop. It is not the fault of the supplier either. It is just that fishes looked so much similar that they are mixed up.

I have seen before that in one whole bag of A.riesei, there is a distinct mix of two types of fishes. Unless they are different sex, so different colour. The red caudal spot in some after 2months in the tank remains orange/yellow, while some becomes red, and also the fish becomes red. The ones with orange/yellow stays off colour.

Maybe they are different sex? Maybe also they are different species.

I believe them to be different fishes. My 20pcs which i bought from biotope previously where all very red. Don't think i am so lucky/unlucky to get all 20pcs of male or female right?

Do the invoices even use scientific names?

If the different species are not easily distinguishable, then surely they could be mix ups and misidentified. Some species even has to distinguished by going into the details, down to number of rays on the fins, number of scales on the lateral lines etc.

For what it's worth, even those who are experienced could sometimes get the identifications wrong.
