Just wondering anyone have any smartie ideas to catch this super duper fast fish in a tank, especially a heavily planted one?

tried to catch by net, spent more than half an hour but only managaed to catch one SAE

tried putting blood worms in mineral water bottle, the SAEs will kapo every single part of the bottle, but just will not go into the bottle and fall for my trap ...

Try throwing some tubifex worms or live food into a big net and dip it into the tank in the form of a loop shape. Once the fish swim into the area just lift the net up as fast as possible! Hope that works. []

If it doesn't....try to give them a few days of fasting break...should make them hungry enough to fall for food traps.. []

Think the tubifex worm will wriggle through the net.

Off the light in the night for a few hours. On it again and most of the fishes should be blur blur....then try to catch the SAE. Humm...it should work right?[]

SAE has quite gd vision compare to Cory which go basically by the wiskers. My method is to use a large & Deep net and use another smaller one or hand to herd them towards it.

The trick is not to give an impression to the SAE that it is running to a wall.

    Hi Folks,

I do have a simple method that might just work.

    1) Get a Coke bottle (plastic ones and not the 1 litre one!).
    2) Cut it into 2 parts.
    3) Turn the top portion of the bottle inward toward the 2nd half like this...
    -------------------/
    / ------- /
    /baits
    / --------
    -------------------
    4) Anchor the 2 parts at 4 points.
    5) Put baits.

Note : Make sure you punch holes in the 2nd half. That makes lift the trap easier from the water. Picture may not turn out good but I hope you can figure out.

I would like to take out my SAE too; they eats my moss. BTW, why do you need to take out the SAE? Please enlighten. Thanks.

The two net method should work.
If all else fails, then leave the tank top open. SAEs are good jumpers.

My first post ... I read that the true SAE would not give up on eating algae, but that the look-alikes would quit. Anyone with more info? I'm about to buy two of them and now I hesitate.

Also, I've got 3 Ots's in a heavily planted 30 gal. tank. Is that too many?

Hmm i'm quite sure the SAEs i kept are the so called true ones. They do eat algae but they would rather eat flake food if it is fed to them.

The bottle trap works well for me. Just leave it overnight, it'll take time for them to "trust" the trap and of course get to the food.

It took me a good 2 months to catch the puffer out of my 5-footer....

I was having 20 pcs of SAE inside my 4ft tank. I woke up early morning at 6am when the sky still dark. Then I get ready the net inside the aquarium and turn on the lighting.

SAE and other fishes will just stunt over there for a minute. Then quicky net them out.
