How long has the plant been planted there?
Any base fert? Using any form of substrate fert?
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.

A woman: without her, man is nothing.
Is it possible that you have planted it too deep?
Should leave a bit of the tuber visible above the substrate.

it has been in the tank for 3 months already. Just last Friday there were more than 5 to 6 leaves, now only left 2 1/2 leave......there is base fert. I think it could be due to not enough light? The tank has a covered top that can only fit with 2 1/2 lights...Thinking of changing it to 3 36W PL light. Any place can do the changes?
It does not make sense if the plant has been growing for the last 3 months under the same lighting and suddenly die off.
Sounds more like some nutrient deficiency.
By the way, what is your tank size and light wattage?

BC, I agree....with you.----------------

Bulldog,
Mine have the same fate. Does all your leaves reached/near the water surface? I have about a dozen leaves and most near the water surface. It had been growing well for 6 months and out of the sudden....all melted!!!
[]
I think to prevent melting, you have to cut the leaves before it reached the top. For now, ensure at least one leave left, if only left the rizhome, you can forget about the plant. Mine never grow after that...[]

Not true. I bought the rhizome from Teo's, a huge one, abt 4-5"
No leaves, after 1 week,it has spouted quite a few leaves!
Temperature is abt 28.0C and light is about 2W/gal.
But I do use Osram daylight tube and Floura. Maybe the Floura has some effect? It's supposed to be for indoor plants and also aquarium
Really, happy to hear that, means mine still got hope!!! Will strong light helps? BTW, what you mean by 4-5&quot, please enlighten. Thanks.----------------

Leaves reaching the water surface has nothing to do with the melting.----------------

In fact the ang kong boys from Teo recommend that you trim off all the leaves and plant the rhizome slightly emerging from the gravel. A good healthy rhizome will sprout lots of leaves in no time. After a while it will sprout a floating leaf, which is morphologically different as it grows upward without unfurling until it reaches out of the water. Once it does this it will keep producing floating leaves and the submersed leaves will melt away.
The good thing though, once the floating leaves start the flowers will follow soon [:]

my red tiger lotus and green tiger lotus all melted. had base fert and using two Osram daylight fl tubes for lighting and they still melted. produced some new leaves then suddenly they all went byebye.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Bulldog,
Are you using any substrate fetilisers? If not, stick 2 or 3 substrate fertiliser around the plants. Root monsters, JBL 7 Balls or Flourish Tabs are possiblities. Lotus need rich substrates.

You mean the rhizome is 4-5 inches in size? That is huge. Can get from Teo? How much does it cost? Thanks.

The rhizome is 4-5" in length. It's a huge root. But don't think it's expensive as all the plants in my 5' only cost me $30. So should be couple of dollars only
