Are you referring to gravel or soil? Haven't heard of GEX plant or shrimp gravel before.
hi guys, as the topic implies,
is it possible to add additional gravel into my cycled(9+mnths) shrimp aquarium?
i am thinking of adding another 8kg or lesser into my 2.5ft tank for planting as currently my gravel is only about 1.5 to 2inches thick.
Is there any negative impact on this procedure and is it ok to use the gex plant gravel mix with gex shrimp gravel.(my original is also gex gravel.)
Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Add gradually to avoid any ammonia, nitrate spike if the soil has such properties.
Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?
It's this . I guess its called soil.

Okay, for soil substrates, if you just add them directly into a filled tank the water will tend to end up cloudy... and with soil designed for plants, there will usually be a large portion of ammonia released initially so it'll take time for the tank to settle and the cycle to stabilize again.
A better method to add more new soil substrate is to transfer out all the livestock to another temporary holding tank, drain the water until substrate level, then pour in the new soil. After that slowly fill the tank with water again. Switch on the filter and let it clear any cloudiness and suspended particles.
Allow the tank to settle for a while and test the water parameters, once the ammonia and nitrite are back to zero and everything is stable, then can gradually add the livestock back into the tank.
Btw, its okay to mix the plant and shrimp soil together, just that if the color and size of the soil grains are different, it may look abit odd.

any good suggestions to transfer shrimplets out?...
Small net + pipette + lots of squinting and patience.
Can also try making a DIY shrimp trap from plastic bottle/container with food inside and see if you can trap as many as possible to transfer out.
The tiniest shrimplets that still remain hidden in the tank will just have to go through the soil addition process, the survivors will become the hardiest ones in the colony.
if you're still having shrimplets I don't get why you'd want to add more soil
i wanted to add soil in too but i'm afraid of a setback!
