Finally after about 2 months my tank has fully cycled and I managed to put in shrimps about a week ago.
Soil: borneowipd plant soil(shrimp soil was sold out)
    Ammonia:0
    Nitrite:0
    Nitrate:5
    GH: 4
    Tds:no idea
So far so good, all the commando shrimps have been doing well and even though they weren't active at first now they are. Suggestions and feedback welcome! uploadfromtaptalk1398929205640.jpg

Nice tree. Your shrimps may not want to hide at the hollow cubes that you placed right in front of the tree.

Great work in cycling the tank. Like the color of the soil, perhaps can rear dark color shrimps in the future? Hee.

Anyway with shrimps, perhaps you want to consider covering the inlet with sponge?

I used to do that but it keeps getting clogged every few days, anyway to solve that problem?

I experienced the same thing too, the filter guards keep getting clogged up and look unsightly... so nowadays i don't use filter guards at all and just allow any "lucky" shrimplets to get into the canister filter and grow up in there for a few months before i retrieve them out during filter maintenance.

Only for canister filters though, not for hang-on back filters (the shrimplets will become shrimp paste in those).

Well, if you are rearing expensive shrimps eventually, I'm sure you won't mind making extra efforts to do filter maintenance. Haha.

    Re: My new shrimp tank!

Personally, I remove the filter from the tank, take out the filter media and clean it with dechlorinated water. I then use a brush or cotton bud to clean the interior of the filter. After alls done. I place everything back in place and send it back to the tank

    Re: My new shrimp tank!

I would vacuum some of the substrate every water change. I am using RAC active soil to keep water acidic and stable without having to battle fluctuations.

Some parts of your substrate seemed thick. It will be a heaven for detritus worm or other pest to feed/multiply in.

    Bought mine from Aquarist Chamber
