traces of blood where? gills or stomach?
and any new fish inside? exactly how old is the tank? any change of feeding habit?

regardless, have you changed the water yet?

oto: traces of blood ard its mouth..
Lemon algae eaters: on the stomach
    flying fox: no symptoms

no change of feeding habits.. last change of water should be 2 weeks ago i think.. no new fishes..
[:] i figure, it should be the change of water..

    Kel,

Can it be some kind of disease?

If you think it is the change of the water, I will wonder why only the algae eaters are affected....

Algae eaters have a tendency to rest or scavenge around on/in the substrate. Could be something in the substrate.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

If they are parasitic, or are carrying disease... quite possible.

    Kel,

Do you have corys in your tank? If you have, beware that corys..

BTW, do you feed live worms? Those worms in the substrate, what colours are they?

For me, I do feed my fish with tubiflex worms, those worms that escape the mouth of the fish gets into the gravel and they started to change.
Some of them starts to cling to the roots and they turn bright red.
They were also long and thin and slimy. All my fish dun like them.

Dunno if they will harm my plants coz most of them are clinging at the roots...[] []

    Kel,

Do you think salt treatment might work? Check with DEA about cory tolerance to salt though.

Hi kelstorm, I also have the same problem as u, my oto died one by one for the past 1 month. Now left with one miserable oto. I'm worried he will go soon. The puzzling thing is that other fishes are not affected except one platy was down with dropsy. I quickly culled it to prevent the disease from spreading. Fortunately no other casaulty.
Previously I changed water every fortnight, now I do it every week. I always use Nutrafin water conditioner and Oeanfree blackwater during water change.pH and other parameters look OK to me.

Guys, do u think the reason behind this mysterious death of oto is the lunar seventh month? I'm very superstitious about such things, maybe I should find time to go to the Kwan Im Tong temple at Waterloo St to pray for my family, fishes and plants.

Ottos are pretty fragile creatures. But once they get used to the water, they can live quite happily.

Maybe, we should wait for a few months until your tank really stabilised before you add the next batch.

It is also important to aclimatise them prior to introducing them to the tank. I always practice adding 50% tank water to the water in the bag and let them sit in the water in a dim corner for 1 hour.

I just introduce another batch of ottos last week this way without any loss.

    Good luck!

My tank is abt 2mths already. Should be properly cycled. densely planted.

No complaints from other fishes... except my otos..

Yeah, i'll try again in a mths time. [] Lets hope no more failure..
