    Hi,
    need all the expert out there to advise.
    Is it better to connect the external filter outlet hose direct to the co2 reactor (those three bio ball type),or connect with a rain bar let some water drain out from the rain bar hole and connect end of the rain bar to reactor. I am using diy co2.

    Depends on the power of your filter vs size of tank. If there isn't enough turbulence in your reactor, your CO2 won't dissolve as much. If you find the output too strong, then a rain bar will help.

    Alternatively, split the output into 2 hoses... one return to tank direct or thru rainbar, the other go to reactor.

    Do u guys put the Co2 outlet away from the outlet of the cannister? i put my Co2 diffuser under the rain bar so that the Co2 bubbles will be drift further and further dissipate the gas?

    You shd connect the reactor in between the rain-bar and the filter output. That's how I did with two of my tanks and DIY CO2.

    That's a good way of helping more of the CO2 to dissolve.
    Using a reactor would be more efficient, in my opinion. But maybe you think the fine streams of CO2 bubbles from the diffuser is nice looking...

    What the famous planted tank guy , Takashi Amano said that the CO2 tht travels up towards the water colume have already dissolve it's Co2 to the water the bubbles that we often seen are actually other tpye of gases like O2 and nitrogen...

    Also can't keep the 3 ada diffuser away buy already dun use abit wasted.

    Well, supposedly, Amano's diffusers are more efficent because they produce very fine bubbles, more fine than those on sale in Singapore. With these tiny bubbles, there is more gaseous exchange, leading to more dissolved CO2.

    Reactors are more bulky, but are usually more efficient. I think the Dennerle Cycloturbo is very efficient. But it's too expensive. So I have a Cheap $20 Taiwan reactor with 7 bioballs for my 5' tank

    Vican without the great deals from AQ those ADA diffuser really cost a bomb.

    i Agree that having reactor, the diffusion rate is much better for the external reactor i saw from DEA it seems that there is totally no lost of Co2.

    If you are using CO2 tank, that's almost pure CO2. Shouldn't have other gases like N2 or O2, right?
    So if bubbles still rise to water surface means CO2 wasted. Right?

    I think the diffusor will work better if you have a tall tank. If not, not all the CO2 will dissolve before reaching the surface

    Gas will diffuse from higher concentration to lower.

    Theoretically:
    CO2 is higher in bubble compare to water. So CO2 diffuse from bubble to water.

    N2 or other gas is higher in water. So N2 or other gas diffuse into bubbles but to a smaller extent compared to CO2.

    For the case of a diffuser, I don't think that the gas will fully exchanged before it reaches the surface.

    I have seen in the Dennerle flipper that the bubble actually gets smaller as it rises. When it reaches the top, bubbles is actually much smaller than when it enter the reactor. These bubbles are collected in a cup on top can the CO2 will continue to diffuse into the water. The will be some gas(N2 and other gases) that will not get dissolved and will bubble out of the reactor.

    For the diffusor, there appeared to be more gas reaching the surface. Therefore, I feel that CO2 has not fully dissolved when the buubles reach the surface. I definitely feel that a reactor is more effective in getting CO2 into the water.

    hi guys I'm a newbie.
    I am using DIY CO2 i learnt from some website that all I need to do is let the bubbles collect under a container ( I use a mineral bottle cut into half). The gas will collect in the container and bubble away if access. is this alright?

    my plants are giving out O2...so does that mean my CO2 is enuf?
    or does that only mean my lights are enuf

    how do you define a plant bubbling? my swordplant has bubbles 'underneath' the leaves, how come not on 'top'? and sometimes, can see bubbles flowing out from the bottom of the stem. like vallisneria, cannot see bubbles?..and for plants like those apogenoton tied on bogwood, all the bubles beneath the leaves. is it cos the pores are beneath the leaves for some spesies of plants ar? hmm..[]

    Yes, because the pores are under the leaf. I think they are called stomatas.

    Bubbles flowing out from anywhere else on a plant is usually due to a cut or break at that location.

    I think for vals, cause they are usually vertical and narrow, the oxygen does accumulate enough to form a visible bubble.

    this is what I followed:
    a one gallon bottle
    filled with 3/4 water + 1 cup sugar + 1/4 TSP yeast
    it does not bubble at abt 2 bubbles/sec actually much less
    but it collected into a mineral bottle cut into half and collects there so I guess it dissolves into the water.

    I just started my tank only...so maybe I can update you if my plants are starting to stop bubbling?
