    Hi all

My rescaped 2 ft currently has algae problems. The algae is thread algae and BBA.

    Tank Specs

    2 Ft
    CO2 is 2.25 bps
    PH 6.7
    KH 4
    Light 48W T5 HO

    Fertilization
1/4 tsp KNO3, 1/16 tsp KH2PO Sat, Mon, Wed, Fri
Lushgro Micros 2 drops Sun, Tue, Thurs

WC 50% weekly with 1/4 tablespoon Seachem Equilibrium added

    Flora
Cryptos, Vallis Nana, Japan Hair grass. Nanas on DW

    Fauna
Apistogrammas, Rasboras Espei, Otos, 1 SAE

    1. I probably need to remove these algae manually. For Vallis Nana, how do you cut them out? Cut the leave near the base? These thread algae is at the sides of the vallis Nana and normal Nanas...

    2. Cause of BBA is low CO2. As stated above, CO2 is already at 2.25 bps. Should I increase more?

    3. Is my light too high?

    Please help.

I thing you need to cut near the base for vallis species, it will melt away anyway if you cut only the tip. how good is your reactor/diffusor in disolving the CO2? how about your water circulation?

I am using a Juwel Tank.. My CO2 diffusor is at the back of the tank, in the filter box.... but hard to figure out whether it's good or bad circulation. One thing i did note though, is that by observing the fine particles, it does get circulated to the front of the tank before it's sucked in on the other side. So I guess it should be ok.. I just upped my CO2 to 3 bps (for a 2ft tank)....let's see how it goes.

3bps for 2ft is a lots. My opinion is if you have bad diffusor, no matter how many bps you pump in, it will be released to atmosphere instead of disolved in the water.

    Robert...

Agree with you.. but cant find an answer to that... given the specs of the Juwel tank... i am rather constricted to what I can do....

did you get the bubble rate from your bubble counter?

experience on my 2ft tank with 96watt lighting.
bubble counter shows 3bps. but at glass diffusor is 1bps.
you might want to double check

Your CO2 level is already quite acceptable. So is your dosing.

May I ask what is your tank temperature? I remembered when my fan died on me for a week, my tank which was relatively free from algae before started to grow hair algae all over my HC. After I fixed my fan and some serious excel dosing for 2 days, it went away and never came back.

hmmm.. my temp is about 27 degrees....

    Something new just came up.......

I have never seen this before...

There is hair algae at the edge of my nana leaf... but it's bright red in color.. it's redder than my red plants... what the hell is it?

Vincent (Valice) mentioned that it may be dying hair algae but i am not sure....

    Does anyone know?

    Hey Jeff,

You have a photo of this red hair algae? That might be more helpful in indentifying what it is.

    Hi wasabi8888,

I've just started a 2ft planted tank too and would be dosing abit similar to your dosages except for the traces as i'm using the one bought from NA. Hope you could share the progress of your tank as i would really take notes from your experiences. i've heard of Flourish Excel injected near to affected areas. i am trying it out as well and cant tell the results just yet. Thank you wasabi8888, hope that your tank recover soon.

    HI Jumali

Well after increasing the CO2, still see some hair algae but interestingly, the red hair algae is gone. I think Vincent was right. The red algae was dying hair algae...

The fact that my CO2 is about 3 bps, there is still not much pearling... not too sure why.. I may be increasing my CO2 again, since my fishes are still ok...

I hope the above helps.. if I am not clear, just let me know and I will try to enact my experience with you....

Hi, have you check whether the tubing/connection after your buble counter is intact? i.e no leak, if there's a leak you would not get the right amount CO2 delivered to your reacter/tank.
